Mr. John Newhall has been a member of the Newburgh community all of his life. He grew up singing and enjoying music through St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Newburgh, NY and has been working with children since he was in high school. In his music career, he has worked with famous groups like Kids Bop, Foreigner, and even faith-lead band Fit for a King. In the past few years, he has turned towards education as his next step, working at several schools and giving various instrumental lessons. Now at Bishop Dunn Memorial School, he works to foster a love and understanding of music throughout the community.
In each grade level, students will become exposed to music and engaging musical concepts throughout the academic year. Each grade will have the opportunity to perform in the annual BDMS Spring Concert, along with other opportunities such as holiday pageants, masses and other events.
Grades K-5 will focus on the fundamentals of music and exposition to all types of music and instruments. Grades 6-8 will focus on applying advanced concepts to their own works, diving deeper into instruments and learn to listen to music with intent.
