Marie-Therese Sulit
Professor of English and Director of the Honors Program
Bio
Marie-Therese C. Sulit was born to immigrant Filipino parents, and, accordingly, earned a doctoral degree specializing in Asian American Studies and Literature, with concentrations in race/ethnicity, women writers, and popular culture, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She has earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and General Literature and two Master’s degrees in English as well as English and Adolescence Education at Binghamton University. As an Associate Professor at Mount Saint Mary College, she explores the historical and current directions of Filipina American Studies and has contributed a number of book chapters on contemporary women writers of the Philippine diaspora, a number of author entries on Asian American writers, and, most recently, a book chapter on 9/11 and Islamophobia. Other research interests include the intersection between academic freedom and the axes of cultural diversity, and this past year, her research has moved her from contemporary American and Philippine history into archival research during the 16th-19th centuries in Sevilla, Spain.
A practitioner of several energy healing modalities, Marie-Therese C. Sulit is also a Reiki Master. Encouraged by her Mount students over the years, she has been studying and training to become a Zumba instructor.
