The next Discovery of Recovery Symposium will be held at Mount Saint Mary College on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Mount Saint Mary College is located at 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, N.Y. The symposium will take place in the college’s Hudson Hall building. The event is free, but space is limited. To register, visit www.msmc.edu/Recovery2
The symposium, the second in an ongoing series, is a joint venture between the Mount and the Resource Recovery Center of Orange County, in collaboration with several sponsors.
Organizations from throughout New York State will be sharing their collective ideas, programs, and solutions for vital addiction issues and discuss services available to people in crisis in the Hudson Valley.
The event will feature several speakers.
Friday
- Fernando Montero, Chief Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, will discuss the myths and realities of the new era of synthetic drugs, such as Fentanyl and Xylazine.
- Julianah Ogundimu, an Opioid Use Disorder Systems Specialist, will discuss how individuals can navigate the treatment process for non-fatal overdoses in a successful manner.
- Jillian Nadiak-Bruck from the HEALing Initiative will discuss community engagement in opioid prevention.
Saturday
- Shulamit Elson, a specialist in “Voice-Sound” therapy from Medi-Sound, will give a demonstration of techniques individuals can use to develop a meditative state using biorhythmic sounds.
- Other Saturday speakers will include Zachery Harper, Peer Counseling Specialist from the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC); Erik VanGaasbeek from Sun River Health; and Jenny Ingram, an expert in utilizing Acupuncture as a tool of pain relief and harm reduction in varied crisis situations.
