Fr. Gregoire Fluet, chaplain and director of Campus Ministry, discusses the Dominican Pillar of Spirituality on Monday, September 19.

Mount Saint Mary College freshmen were immersed in the four Dominican Pillars recently during the First-Year Experience (FYE) course headed by Charles Zola, assistant to the President for Mission Integration, director of the Mount’s Catholic and Dominican Institute, and associate professor of Philosophy.

The Mount was founded by the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1959, with the Dominican Pillars of service, community, study, and spirituality as their guide. More than six decades later, aiding the community remains a central part of the college’s mission. Each of the recent FYE courses focused on one of the four Dominican Pillars.

The college’s First Year Experience program welcomes first-year students and fosters success as they transition into the Mount community. Through specially designed programming throughout students’ first year of college, the FYE program cultivates community-based learning, academic success, the personal development necessary for college life, and a connection to the Mount as first-year students become active members in our community of learners.
