With graduation soon at hand, Mount Saint Mary College seniors sought to get a competitive edge in their careers at the recent Real World Connections in Corporate America networking event.
Hosted by the college’s Career Center, the Real World Connections series unites seniors of all majors with professionals in a variety of fields, including high profile recruiters and successful alumni. The reception-like gatherings provide a low pressure environment for students to mingle with the professionals and afford personal connections that larger job fairs often cannot.
About a dozen corporations were represented at the event with employers from companies such as Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Media Vision Advertising, National Bank of Canada, McKesson Pharmaceutical, and KMPG, LLP. The professionals, many of them Mount alumni, lent their time to mentor the Mount students.
Noelle Collazo ’09, a manager at KPMG, expressed the need for events like this. “It’s really important for the students to get involved and start building their network early. You never know what those connections can do for you,” she said.
In addition to Collazo, Mount alumni represented the following companies:
- Northwestern Mutual – Ryan Reeves ’09
- Community Capital New York Inc. – Fernando Ahumada MBA ’03
- HBO – Patrick Legare ’92
The Mount’s Career Center prepares students for varied career opportunities in the Hudson Valley, New York City, the Capital Region, and beyond.
