Mount Saint Mary College’s CMA Gallery will host an opening reception for its newest exhibition, “A Place to Connect” by Jason Bauer and Romina Gonzales, on Saturday, April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The reception and gallery are free and open to the public. The gallery is located on the first floor of Aquinas Hall on campus, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, N.Y. The event is being cosponsored by the college’s Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center.

Gonzales and Bauer engage the senses through their sculptural works that explore a collective interest in wellness and spirituality. The new gallery will present a curated collection of individual and collaborative interactive works consisting of glass, sulfur, light, and sound.
Bauer is an American artist working in pursuit of equanimity through the expansion of consciousness. His work exists as an ongoing exploration of intuitive processes and technical challenges to create mental, physical and spiritual experiences through mediums such as glass, light, sound, and more. Bauer is interested in engaging his audience through a transformative interaction.
Gonzales, originally from Lima, Peru, is a local interdisciplinary artist working with elemental energy in the pursuit of connection with self and spirit. She moves seamlessly between sculpture, printmaking, and performance. By portraying gestures and narratives through material responses, she questions givens and offers alternative perspectives. Her influences come from wellness, spirituality, science, and the dissonant narratives that uphold society.
The CMA gallery was created in 2019 as a professional artist space to exhibit media picked by Mount faculty from among the rising population of artists who live and work in Newburgh, Beacon, and throughout the Hudson Valley.
The Mount’s CADM programs encompass the study of digital media production, graphic design, and journalism. CADM also offers minors in each of these disciplines, as well as in art and film studies. Housed in the Mount's Division of Arts and Letters, CADM programs prepare students for both traditional and emerging professions.
CADM recently added a major in Visual Communication-Graphic Design. Students in this program study visual communication with an emphasis on conceptual problem-solving and technical proficiency.
