The Board of Trustees of Mount Saint Mary College recently elected Michael Horodyski, president and CEO of Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan, as board chair of the college.
A board member since 2017, Horodyski’s tenure as chair will begin in June 2020.
Horodyski is dedicated to honoring the heritage of the college’s founders – the Dominican Sisters – while improving the Mount’s rigorous academic programs.
“The board position at Mount Saint Mary College was an honor from day one,” said Horodyski. “The impact that the Mount has on not only the students, but also the greater Newburgh and Hudson Valley area, cannot be overstated. I am excited to continue the stewardship of the Dominican educational tradition, and help provide a learning environment that forges students who bring a material impact to their chosen professions and their greater communities.”
Mount president Dr. Jason N. Adsit praised Horodyski’s dedication to the college.
“Michael Horodyski has demonstrated a true commitment to Mount Saint Mary College and its community since he joined the college’s Board of Trustees several years ago,” said Dr. Adsit. “As chair of the board, he will help guide the Mount to new successes. In addition, his business expertise will help the college to become an even bigger asset to our local community.”
Born and raised in Highland, N.Y., Horodyski is a seasoned businessman and has been president and CEO of Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan for nearly a decade. Before that, he served as the bank’s Executive Vice President.
After graduating from Marist College with honors, Horodyski spent some time on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange before returning to the Hudson Valley to begin his banking career. He has served local community banks in a number of capacities before joining Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan in 2009.
Giving back to the community is an important part of Horodyski’s life both professionally and personally. He has served on the Board of Directors for community organizations such as St. Augustine’s PTA, Town of Lloyd Town Board, Town of Lloyd Revolving Loan Fund, Walkway Over the Hudson, and the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency.
Mount Saint Mary College honored Horodyski with the Joseph A. Bonura Leadership Excellence Award at its Seventh Annual Gala Reception in 2016.
Charles Frank, the current chair of the Board of Trustees of Mount Saint Mary College, will continue as chair through May. After passing the torch to Horodyski, Frank will continue serving the college as a board member.
Frank, an IBM business executive and former Mayor of Walden, N.Y., has served on the Mount’s Board of Trustees since 2012. He has also served as the Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee and was elected as Vice Chair of the Board in 2014.
“I would like to thank Charles Frank for his unwavering dedication and service to the college,” said Dr. Adsit. “Under his guidance as chair of the Board of Trustees, the Mount has enhanced its academics, increased its service to the community, and become a better place to work and learn.”
Horodyski echoed the president’s statement: “I also want to thank Charlie Frank for his leadership. His presence and dedication to the Mount, at times under difficult circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, was unwavering.”
