Health Informatics is a field of multiple disciplines that uses information technology to organize and analyze health records to improve health care outcomes and help the healthcare industry run efficiently.

• IT background: Our Health Informatics program is a concentration within the Information Technology major. You'll be taught the fundamentals of IT with a focus on the healthcare industry.
• Well-rounded approach: We have carefully designed our Health Informatics program to prepare students for the newly emerging and rapidly growing field. You'll take courses from a number of subjects to learn both the healthcare industry and data aspects of Health Informatics, including computer science and security, programming, human computer interaction, healthcare law, mathematics, and more.

Your courses in Health Informatics will focus on how to collect, store, retrieve, and analyze complex health data, enhancing what you learn in your general Information Technology classes. You will learn how to organize and manage these data systems efficiently to improve patient care.

Those in our Health Informatics concentration are also highly encouraged to take advantage of internships and co-ops. These experiences are often paid, and many have led to job offers for our students. Plus, the real-world, hands-on experience you receive through these experiences is invaluable! You'll want to start talking to the Career Center early on in your studies to help you find the perfect experience (or experiences!) with any one of our forty local area hospitals.

This concentration will prepare you for various careers in the field such as healthcare information technologists, clinical informatics analysts, health informatics specialists, and other related positions.
