  • Availability: From our professors to our state-of-the-art labs, everything is available to you as a student. Need to complete a project on a lab computer? You have 24/7 swipe access. Have a question about an assignment? Pop by your professors’ office virtually or face-to-face; they’ll be happy to work with you!

“My favorite part of the...program was the non-stop challenge of learning the many aspects of computer/network security. Each challenge was difficult but rewarding. I have witnessed the field’s evolution over the course of my four-year college career alone. The ever-changing nature is what I believe keeps this career path interesting.”

Learn about Information Technology major and minor academic requirements and courses here.

Information Technology is a very hands-on major. You can’t really learn how to manage technology from a textbook; you have to try it for yourself! In addition to hands-on learning, you’ll also learn the principles of managing projects, understanding the concepts of secure and efficient system management, and deal with the many ethical questions that arise in relation to technology. Throughout your courses, you’ll be guided by our knowledgeable faculty who have experience in the field, but they won’t let that dictate how you solve problems: they’ll focus on giving you the freedom to investigate and discover on your own.

Plus, you can get involved in the Mount’s IT honors society, which often sponsors on-campus workshops or behind-the-scenes tours of IT operations at organizations like New York Public Radio. There’s also a focus on giving back. Students in the IT honors society have held free technology training at the local community center, and classwork emphasizes that helping to make communication easier and faster is a vital service to the community.
