What to expect as a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing student
RNs with a Master of Science in Nursing are eligible to pursue a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing at the Mount. Your course structure will depend on which track you select as well as any prior credits in nurse practitioning:

In the Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing for Adult-Gerontology, your courses will focus on care for adults and the elderly, with particular attention on health promotion, prevention of illness, maintenance of health status, and management of acute episodic and stable chronic conditions. At the completion of the program, you will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Certification examination.

In the Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing for Family Health, your courses will focus on care for children and families, with particular attention on health promotion, prevention of illness, maintenance of health status, and management of acute episodic and stable chronic conditions. At the completion of the program, you will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Family Nurse Practitioner Certification examination.

In the Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing for Psychiatric Mental Health, your courses will focus on care for clients of all ages and backgrounds with mental health issues and psychiatric disorders, with particular attention to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of psychiatric clients across the lifespan, as well as mental health promotion and psychiatric disease prevention. At the completion of the program, you will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification examination.
Nurse educators are in demand, and a certificate will help you grow your skills as both a nurse and an educator. You’ll take courses focused on the role of the nurse educator, curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies, evaluation of learning, and informatics in education and healthcare.
The final course in the program is a 60-hour practicum experience in which students will develop, teach, and evaluate courses in both academic and non-academic settings utilizing their newly acquired knowledge. You’ll benefit from the real world experience of our faculty, who are all RNs with years of clinical and teaching expertise.
